Five Thoughts: with Sal Khan of Khan Academy
From our Glad Academics Principal:
It was refreshing to hear Sal Khan, creator of Khan Academy, speak fluently about transforming education as his company continues to scale larger. Below are ONLY five crucial thoughts that came to my mind during this time:
- Simply communicating is not enough; you must still translate. A student may be good at chess, but may not be able to translate those skills to an algebra class. There are still poor communicators teaching. There are still students needing translators.
- You do not need all technology, but at least effective technology. When you can create a large business based on work you did in your closet for a small number of people, the demand is obviously there. Launch with what you need to get the message across!
- Care must make you problem solve to the benefit of the user. You must care for the people you serve enough to pursue the result hard enough to reach it.
- Intervene! Do not be afraid to step in the gap and be the help others need.
- Take advantage, not for granted. Space and opportunity may be what you make of it. Embrace the technological develops that have already been made, not just wait for new ones.
