Coding Your School
Coding teaches logical thinking, real-world application of math principles, and career-ready skills that can become lucrative for students and their families. In our courses, students use web-based software and “learn as they go” in live virtual 60-90 min class sessions. With the lack of equitable access to coding in mind, we consider it one of our missions to get coding into schools across the nation. While it is something not to be limited to our youth, we recommend our classes for 3rd-12th grades. Our curriculum will:
- Provide students with a basic understanding of selected languages
- Peak the interest of students interested in video games, art, music, or design.
- Inspire and encourage academic excellence
CLASS OPTIONS
We are believers in the use of project-based learning. For so many of our students, it is important to present the class in a creative way. Our classes are designed to challenge and improve student engagement. Furthermore, we want scholars to have a positive learning experience. Here are some of our current options:
- PROJECT-BASED SCRATCH: Students use a block-based coding program to learn code logic, design characters, and create their own video game
- PROJECT-BASED PYTHON: Students use a text-based language to compose their own audio tracks and audio/visual filters
- CODE PROFFICIENCY: Students develop basic Python skills by exploring its syntax, capabilities, and real life applications
Our Experience
We have experience with over 100 students in one virtual class, and can tailor our structure to your needs. As one administrator puts it, we know how to “increase the rigor for students who are catching on quickly while making the activity less difficult for students not mastering the skills as readily.” Students have an avenue for questions, as we utilize effective teaching techniques to include students and affirm their efforts. Although even our students use digital devices, they do not always have access to technological career paths at early ages.
See here for additional Summer options. Additionally, here is some information on the usefulness of coding in schools.
